The European Heritage Days are the perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover Istres, its history, its iconic sites and the richness of its heritage!
In Istres, the Tourist Office is joining forces with numerous cultural partners and local organisations to offer, from September 18 to 20, a varied programme of tours and discoveries centred around the heritage of Istres.
The 2026 edition features several new highlights, starting with “L’étang inversé”, the new audio walk created by the Tourist Office. This immersive experience along the shores of the Étang de l’Olivier combines stories, soundscapes and information, offering a new perspective on this iconic site.
The historic centre will also reveal some of its secrets during a special tour organised to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Habitants du Vieil Istres association. Several old houses that are usually closed to the public will exceptionally open their doors, offering visitors the opportunity to discover their interiors and history.
Other highlights include exceptional access to the Town Hall, as well as opportunities to discover the Château des Baumes, the Pavillon de Grignan and the Saint-Étienne Chapel and its history.
Bus tours of Air Base 125 will also return, while the Media Library and Micro-Folie will offer tours, workshops, games, exhibitions and talks. The Media Library will notably dedicate a day to water in Provence to mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Adam de Craponne.
Finally, on Sunday, discover heritage from a different perspective with “Water is Life”, a fun and interactive walk led by Pijette, Agitatrice en tous Genres, exploring the history of water and its uses in Istres.
A weekend to discover or rediscover Istres, its history, its iconic sites and the richness of its heritage.
