The terroir & producers
The rich earth provides a wide variety of crops. Istres, located in Crau, an alluvial fossil plain, began by receiving silt from the Durance river. Then once the bed dried, sheep grazed on the delta, nourishing the soil with their excrement from antiquity to present day. Due to the combined action of these 2 periods it became an extremely fertile plain, allowing the production of the famous Crau hay, market gardening, arboriculture and livestock.
