Tour of the exhibition accompanied by the art mediators from the Polaris Art Center. An enthusiast of self-filming, Pierrick SORIN creates short skits in which he stars, with great humor, in makeshift sets made up of real and fictional objects.
As early as the 1990s, Pierrick Sorin established his artistic voice through video art. Over time, his works have taken on various forms: short films, visual installations, and holographic installations—also known as optical theaters. The artist takes on all the roles; with humor and derision, he embodies all the characters in his work—rather clumsy, awkward, or shy beings whose gestures evoke the world of slapstick comedy. A poetry of illusion, rooted in the legacy of Georges Méliès and Jacques Tati, that questions—with gentle irony—the process of constructing the images presented and their validity.
Faced with the complexity of the world, Pierrick Sorin veers toward an absurd world—at once serious and funny—and uses comedy to explore both the foundations of an artistic approach and the human condition. An intimate and comical body of work that challenges our perspectives and perceptions.
