Adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea, take advantage of your stay in Istres to discover the “côte bleue” (blue coast). The towns of Martigues, known as the “Venice of Provence” with its small islands, canals and bridges, Sausset-les-Pins with its café terraces and Carry-le-Rouet with its beautiful beaches will guarantee you a pleasant experience at the edge of our big blue sea.

The Côte Bleue (blue coast) is made up of a 22km of protected coastline along the Mediterranean sea, full of beautiful plants and wildlife featured by a Regional Marine Park, coves and rocky inlets that are carved into the limestone keeping their natural appearance and are easily accessible, the picturesque Port de Carro that still offers a traditional fishing activity with its fish market, or a coastal path set up for relaxation and pleasant strolls.

If you prefer to ride along the “Côte Bleue” and get as close as possible to the sea in order to witness some of the most spectacular views, the best option is the TER. Known as the “blue train”, it rides along a unique route between the small railway stations of Niolon and La Couronne. You can get on board from the SNCF railway station of Istres.
