“New Zealand, the Jewel of the Antipodes”
A documentary film by Alain and Evelyne Basset
The journey
Scarred by a vast fault line running north to south, New Zealand lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Known for its rugby, its sheep, and the breathtaking landscapes of The Lord of the Rings, the Māori “land of the long white cloud” remains a nearly untouched natural wonder. It astonishes with its yellow-eyed penguins, royal albatrosses, and its flightless bird, the kiwi.
This unique wildlife thrives amid remarkable scenery where impenetrable forests, volcanic activity, and glacier-covered mountains rising nearly 4,000 meters coexist.
Let’s set off to discover these distant lands of the Antipodes, where descendants of European settlers and Māori—Pacific giants who first landed on islands separated from Australia 100 million years ago—live side by side.
Today, the country still draws young people eager to immerse themselves in an open society, to share roast lamb or venison steak with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc in hand, and to experience a peaceful life in wide-open spaces, far from the world’s turmoil.
Ciné Saveurs +
